Pitstop Hill Resort
Looking out of your window reveals that you are on top of a small hill on a tropical island surrounded by the deep blue of the Indian Ocean and many more small idyllic islands. Welcome to Nyang Nyang Island and Pitstop Hill. Look down and you will see the Pitstops surf break and it’s adjacent swimming beach. A couple of hundred metres to your right is where the perfect left-handers of the famous E-Bay will be spinning away down the line. The resort faces west so not only do you get a great view of the waves, but also of the sun setting over Siberut Island beyond.

Nyang Nyang Island and the Playground
Nyang Nyang Island is one of the five that make up the Southern Siberut, or Playgrounds, region of the Mentawais. It lies 135km south west of the Sumatran mainland and less than 2 degrees below the equator.
Your island has 5 renowned and diverse surf breaks – Pitstops, E-Bay, Bankvaults, Nipussi and Beng Bengs. From here we can get you to 20 named breaks within half an hour by speedboat. As these breaks are scattered around Nyang Nyang and the neighbouring islands, our surf guides can take you to a break for all wind and swell directions, and for all abilities. There’s no need to ever surf in onshore conditions in the Playground!

The Mentawai Islands
The Mentawai archipelago lies off the west coast of Sumatra in Northern Indonesia and stretches 360km end to end from NW to SE. The Mentawais are made up of the four main islands of Siberut, Sipora, and North and South Pagai, with numerous smaller islets scattered throughout the region. These islands have the perfect combination of a huge swell window (that is, the majority of the Indian Ocean), and dozens of perfectly shaped surfing reefs.
Also their proximity to the Equator means that they lie in the doldrums. Unlike other parts of Indonesia further to the south where seasonal trade winds tend to blow from the one direction, the winds in the Mentawais are generally a little lighter, and often change direction several times in the one day.
